Tried and true turkey recipe

The easiest turkey recipe that is sure to please both friends and family!

Servings: 16 approx


• 1 12-20 lbs turkey

• 1 onion, peeled and quartered

• 1 lemon, quartered

• 1 apple, quartered

• fresh rosemary, to taste

• fresh thyme, to taste

• fresh sage, to taste

Herb Butter

• 1 cup softened unsalted butter

• 1 tsp salt

• 1/2 tsp black pepper

• 6-8 cloves garlic, minced

• 1 tbsp fresh chopped rosemary

• 1 tbsp fresh chopped thyme

• 1/2 tbsp fresh chopped sage


1. If you purchased a frozen turkey, thaw in fridge for 24 hrs per 5 lbs of turkey. Give yourself an extra day to be safe

2. Remove turkey from fridge after defrosted an hour before roasting to allow it to come to room temperature

3. Preheat oven to 325 defrees F and move racks to allow space for turkey to fit

4. Make herb butter by combining all ingredients into a bowl

5. Remove turkey from packaging and remove the neck and giblets from inside the birds cavities, then pat the turkey dry with some paper towels

6. Season the cavity of the bird with some salt and pepper. Stuff the onion, apple, lemon and fresh herbs.

7. using your fingers, loosen the skin on top of the turkey and smooth some of the herb butter along the underside of the turkey

8. Tuck the wings underneath the turkey and set it on a roasting rack inside a roasting pan

9. Place the remaining herb butter in the microwave for about 30 seconds until very softened. Brush the butter all over the outside of the turkey

10. Roast at 325 degrees F for about 13-15 minutes per pound, or until the internal temp (inserted in the middle of the thigh and breast) reaches 165 degrees

11. If your turkey's skin gets golden brown halfway through cooking, simply tent the turkey with some foil and allow it to continue cooking until the proper temperature is reached

12. Once cooked, remove the turkey from the oven and allow the turkey to rest for 20-30 minutes before carving

13. Make sure to reserve the drippings and juices from the turkey to make some gravy
