French 75

Celebrate the arrival of summer with this easy, refreshing cocktail.

Summer is coming and if you’re anything like me, your taste buds will be changing with the seasons.

During winter people tend to enjoy heavier and darker drinks such as whiskeys, red wine, and dark beers. When spring comes in people seem to go more towards light, fruity, and floral drinks which means white wines, lighter beers, citrus, and a lot of gin drinks.

The French 75 is a very quick and easy drink to make that is light, citrusy, floral, and delicious that will definitely impress your guests.

The French 75 has been around since the 1920s, though different variations of this drink have been around since the 19th Century. In the 19th Century they had a champagne drink called The Champagne Cup which was champagne, lemon juice, and sugar, which they sometimes added a little bit of gin to.

I chose to use a more local gin, but you can use whichever brand is your favourite. You can also use bottled fresh lemon juice, but I chose to squeeze the lemons myself, it's very quick and easy. If you’re interested in learning more information about the products I used you can find it here:

Gin - Last Straw Distillery

Prosecco - Martini

What you need:

- Collins Glass

- Jigger

- Lemons

- Gin

- Prosecco

- Simple Syrup

- Ice

This drink is built in the glass, so there is no need for a shaker.

Step One: Get your Collins glass and add lots of ice into it.

Step Two: Add 1.5oz of your favourite Gin into the glass.

Step Three: Add 0.5oz Simple Syrup into the glass.

Step Four: Add 0.5oz Lemon Juice into the glass. If you don't have fresh lemon juice on hand, just do what I did and cut a lemon in half and squeeze it into the glass. I like to use a strainer so no seeds or pulp get into the drink. A half lemon usually yields 0.5oz of juice.

Step Five: Fill the rest of the glass with Prosecco or whatever sparkling wine you choose.

Step Six: Give a quick little stir, then garnish with a lemon wheel.

Step Seven: Serve the drinks to you and your friends!

ENJOY!
